You wouldn't bathe in a dirty bath, so why on earth would you drink coffee from a dirty coffee maker?

Cleaning coffee makers is a vital part of maintaining your coffee machine. You spent good money on getting the thing, spend a little time looking after it and it should last you for quite some time. Cleaning will save your hard earned cash - as you will not have to replace your coffee machine so often!

How to clean your coffee maker:

1. Get rid of any old coffee grinds and rinse out your filters and decanter before you do anything else.

2. Make up a vinegar mix (water and vinegar). Put the vinegar mix through your coffee pot and/or water reservoir. Let it stand for a little while in the coffee machine.

3. Run the full cycle through your machine, this is to clean all the parts inside.

5. Turn the machine off and let your coffee machine have a good soak in the vinegar mix.

6. If it has been a while since you last time you did your coffee maker cleaning, do steps 3 - 5 again.

7. Clean the vinegar out by emptying your machine of the mix, then rinse your machine by running a cycle through with water. You may want to do this a few times to make sure the vinegar taste/taint is out. Otherwise you will have a funny taste left.

8. That's all - Well done you have a clean coffee machine!

It is important to regularly spend some time cleaning your coffee home brewer. There are various recommendations for how often, but at a minimum a coffee maker should be cleaned once a month. Maybe you could start a schedule where you always try to clean it on the first Monday of every month? Find a way that works for you and stick to it!
